Fireplace Stone Reveal

Howlett & Co - Arabescato Marble Hearth

This week was a big week. As many of you know, we’ve been chipping away at restoring our living room fireplace and giving it a serious facelift. It started out pretty bleak.

The original slate mantel was in bad shape with years of tarnish and oversprayed paint. The hearth was cracked old concrete and the fireplace opening itself was covered with a bright blue sheet of plywood. Once we removed the plywood, we discovered the brick jack arch had collapsed and the chimney was in rough structural shape.

Two Steps Closer

While we’re still working on the mantel restoration, today we are one step (actually two steps!) closer to a beautiful and functioning fireplace. Earlier this week, the fireplace installer came and lined the chimney, prepping it for the gas insert. But the really exciting renovation recap from this week was our stone install! Are you ready for the reveal?

The Big Reveal

Isn’t she lovely? I introduce to you.. our Arabescato marble! We’re so happy with how this came together. We spent a good amount of time meeting with the stone fabricator selecting the exact area of stone we wanted for each piece and to ensure the veins were consistent across the seams.

We were crossing our fingers the day the stone arrived at our house that all had gone according to plan.

And it did!! The only thing we are sad about is how much of this beautiful stone will get covered by the mantel. To help you visualize the finished product, we’re sharing a little step x step of the components and how they come together.

So did we make the right choice on the marble? We’re also an open book when it comes to questions. Feel free to add them in the comment section below. And don’t forget to head over to our instagram for additional video and photos of the installation.
