The Richmond Life

Before launching into our first renovation post, we wanted to show you around our new town and give you a tour of the place that made us take the leap to leave our pretty, functional (and most importantly done) house up north. When we first seriously considered Richmond as our new home, we decided to visit the city and drive around town to check out the different neighborhoods.

We randomly toured a house we found posted online in this quirky little neighborhood called Oregon Hill. Fast forward several months and here we are!

The neighborhood is a bit of its own enclave, nestled between downtown, the river, and the large historic Hollywood Cemetery (hence the tombstone mentioned in the last post). We’ve absolutely love living so close to the river. At just a 5 minute walk, we can easily take an evening stroll along the river, go for a quick swim or run, or take advantage of all of the festivals on Browns Island. The green space and access to the outdoors was definitely a major driver as to why we picked Richmond to be our new home.

Beyond the green space, we were looking for a creative, artsy city. Between the events at the VMFA, various gallery openings, and the number of young, creative start-ups in town, we feel like there is always something going on. Plus we’ve found lots of german food and delicious restaurants all about town which makes the transition pretty easy.

We’re doing our best to take advantage of it all but are trying to balance that with renovations on the house.

To be honest, that’s been the biggest hold up so far with the renovation. With having just moved to town, we’d rather be out exploring than finding the motivation to work on the place. We’ve taken it pretty slow the past couple months (and been enjoying the pretty weather), but now we’re ready to get to work.

We’ve made it our goal to finish at least 2(ish) rooms in the house in the next month. We need your all’s help to keep us motivated! If we don’t keep you in the loop at least a couple times a month, please give us a little nudge and let us know it’s time for us to stop playing and get to work. Good lord knows we’ll need it!
