Let There Be Light

So today is the day that will absolutely delight all of our plant babies when we finally move in to the upstairs unit. As many of you know, Owen and I own what most would consider a ridiculous number of plants. And we’re not talking tiny succulents and terrariums here. Sure, we have plenty of those, but I think we have officially moved into jungle-like territory.

As you saw in our recent post about the third floor expansion, we have a thing for giant windows and natural light.

That didn’t stop with the third floor. Our new living room / dining room space is getting its own peek to the outdoors with the addition of three new windows. And they face East!! Okay, so I may have gotten a little over excited with that last sentence. But for every plant lover out there, you know that morning light is the absolute best. There’s nothing more depressing than moving to a place that only has harsh, burning afternoon light.

New Windows

I am hoping with our move and all these new windows, we can finally get our orchid collection back up and running. They’ve been a bit sad the past few years. Our fiddle leaf fig tree is actually going to be getting light from two directions! This is very exciting news. To be honest, the daylight for all our plants might actually be the thing I am most excited about for this renovation. Is that weird?

Original Trim

Back to the design side of things, we were able to save the trim from several of the doors we removed to make the open plan. This saved trim will soon surround the new windows. We will be sure to post new photos when the trim is in to see if you all think they pass for the originals.
